Topographic Architecture of Lunag Ri

Lunag Ri is a formidable 6,895-meter granite and mixed-ice mountain standing on the boundary between Nepal and Tibet in the Rolwaling Himal near the Nangpa La pass. Long recognized as one of the highest and most aesthetically striking unclimbed summits in the Himalayas, its razor-sharp West Ridge rebuffed numerous world-class expeditions, including joint attempts by American legend Conrad Anker and Austrian prodigy David Lama. In late October 2018, David Lama achieved an immortal milestone in alpine history by making the first ascent of Lunag Ri solo, climbing the complex, bitterly cold West Ridge completely alone in pure alpine style.

Geographical & Glacial Context: High Himalayas on the Nepal-Tibet border, rising north-northwest of Cho Oyu and the historic trade route of the Nangpa La.
First Ascent: October 25, 2018Β·Expedition Team: David Lama (Solo First Ascent via the West Ridge)
