Editorial Policy & Verification

Mountanity operates as a credible, non-commercial international mountain archive and storytelling journal.

1. Editorial Philosophy & Independence

Mountanity is not a commercial trekking booking agency, a gear shop, or a social network. Our sole purpose is to chronicle mountaineering history, peak geographies, verified expedition outcomes, and authentic human narratives with rigor and reverence for the mountain heritage.

2. Fact-Checking & Primary Sources

Mountaineering history contains disputed claims, unverifiable solo ascents, and differing topographical surveys. Mountanity adheres to clear evidentiary standards:

  • Documented Ascents: Elevation numbers, summit dates, and first ascents are cross-referenced against authoritative bodies including the Alpine Club of Pakistan, the Himalayan Club, the UIAA, and published expedition journals.
  • Transparent Disputation: When a summit or route claim is contested by credible alpine historians, we explicitly label the record as Disputed and present the competing documentation rather than asserting consensus.
  • No Synthetic Data: We never fabricate ascents, fictitious dates, or false quotations to make records appear complete.

3. Contributor Story Standards

Submissions from climbers and researchers are reviewed by editors before publication. While we preserve the author's authentic voice, testimony, and literary tone, factual statements regarding dates, route locations, and outcomes must withstand editorial scrutiny.

4. Corrections & Archival Amendments

If an error in historical date, altitude, route attribution, or spelling is identified, we correct it transparently. Please review our Corrections Policy for guidelines on submitting evidence-based corrections.
